i always wanted a multiplayer game like pokemon but not pokemon where you
can walk around and build stuff and do things with buddies. i love DF and
rimworld like games too so i scaled back the size and figured we could try
to make it work.
it's also kinda inspired by the world maps of the
discworld MUD.
getting started
download the latest release from the
downloads section.
unzip the archive and run the server:
./server
then open http://localhost:8080 in your browser.
hardware
right now the project is software only. later i hope to document some of
the prototype small-footprint builds being worked on; think SBC/Raspberry
Pi with the server so you can plug in a box and play on the LAN or serve
over the internet.
first devlog entry. the site now has a place for short updates,
written in plain markdown.
how it works
drop a file into www/posts/ named
YYYY-MM-DD-slug.md, give it a tiny frontmatter block, and
the build inlines it on /devlog/ newest-first.

links, inline code, lists, and code blocks all work:

that's it. more soon.
licensing
in the spirit of projects like
ornament & crime, this is meant as a
post-capitalist
thing: a
sharing-economy
artifact, not a single-company product. source is free and MIT licensed;
run it on your machine, build it yourself, and—when they exist—buy or
commission hardware from whoever you trust, not from one gatekeeper.
